Hannes Grosse’s retrospective exhibition journeys from the geometric and hard-edged abstractions of his early career in his native Germany, where he experimented with the conventions of the Concrete Art movement, to the delicately nuanced Colour Field abstractions that express his move to an island off the west coast of British Columbia. In both acrylic paintings and silkscreen prints, Grosse evokes his immersion in the natural world and his philosophical preoccupation with the “duality of time ... time stopped and time in flux.”.
