Ekphrastic Reversed

As a way to mix our media, CVAC has asked 12 well-known poets to compose poems on themes of isolation and invigoration. The final art show will feature several paintings interpreting each poem.

Time & Location

About the event

Ekphrastic means a “description” in Greek. According to the Poetry Foundation, “an ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the “action” of a painting or sculpture, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning.” From The Iliad to Moby Dick, there are plenty of examples of writers describing art.

In our show, instead of words describing art, we have art describing words. Ekphrastic Reversed!
