Handbuilding Ceramics Workshop & Fundraiser
In this 3.5 hour workshop led by local Ukrainian artist Lydia Karpenko, students will be introduced to Trypillian Culture and to simple hand building techniques to create ceramic objects.

After the workshop, clay creations will be fired in an electric kiln once dry: once to bisque, and then coated in a clear glaze to make them food-safe, and then fired again to 2150 degrees F. Pick up finished objects is one month after the workshop date. On December 4th there will be one hour for sharing and group discussion of participants' work.
All materials are provided and include a ball of white clay, hand building tools, and a selection of underglazes. The workshop cost is $150 per person - registration can by purchased here: https://tofinoartscouncil.com/register/handbuildingceramicsworkshop
Total workshop time: approx 3.5 hours Timeline: 10 min - Lecture on Trypillian culture and ceramics, with examples of contemporary art and design work inspired by archaeological artifacts (powerpoint presentation on a projector) 20 min - Demonstration of hand building, pinch pot technique and underglaze decoration and design. A selection of finished objects inspired by Trypillian designs will be on hand for inspiration. 2.5 hours - Independent work with instructor present for support. 15 min - Clean up 50% of fees will be donated to Voices of Children (voices.org.ua): an organization that provides psychological and art therapy support to children affected by war and conflict throughout Ukraine.
